How to Add an Unsubscribe Link to Email in Interceptly

A detailed article on the "Unsubscribe" feature in Interceptly

Written by Chall

Including an unsubscribe link in your emails is good practice and essential for maintaining compliance with email regulations like CAN-SPAM. Fortunately, adding an unsubscribe link in Interceptly is straightforward and takes just a few clicks.

Step-by-Step Guide:

  1. Open Your Campaign

    • Navigate to the Campaigns tab and open the campaign where you want to add the unsubscribe link.

  2. Go to the Email Step

    • Click on the email step in your campaign workflow where you want to include the unsubscribe link.

  3. Turn On the Unsubscribe Option

    • Look for the Unsubscribe Link toggle switch in the email settings panel and enable it.

  4. Save the Step

    • Click Save to apply your changes.

💡 The unsubscribe button will not appear in the email preview, but it will be included in the final email sent to your recipients.

What Happens When Recipients Unsubscribe

Once the unsubscribe link is enabled and a recipient clicks it, the following occurs:

  • The prospect is moved to Pending status with the reason "Profile unsubscribed from emails".

  • This status change only happens if the next step in your campaign is also a Send Email step.

  • If the next step is not a Send Email step, your campaign continues normally.

Unsubscribe Scope and Behavior

When a prospect unsubscribes, they are excluded from all Send Email steps across your campaigns, regardless of which email address is used to contact them.

🚨 Important: Once a prospect unsubscribes, they will no longer receive any of your emails, even if they are added to future campaigns.

Multi-Prospect Edge Case

If two different prospects share the same email address (via different social profiles or manual entry), unsubscribing one does not unsubscribe the other. Each prospect is treated independently.

Unsubscribe Clicks and Metrics

When recipients click the unsubscribe link, those actions are not counted as regular link clicks in your campaign metrics. This ensures your campaign data remains accurate and reflects only genuine user engagement.

Currently, there is no separate metric or dedicated report showing the total number of unsubscribes from your email campaigns. This capability may be added in future updates.
