What Are Custom Placeholders
Custom Placeholders pull data from Custom Fields stored on a prospect profile.
They allow you to personalize messages using information imported from a CSV file.
Examples include:

{{region}}
Each placeholder maps directly to a Custom Field.
When to Use Custom Placeholders
Use Custom Placeholders when:
Your prospect data includes fields not available by default.
You want to personalize messages beyond name, company, or title.
You are importing prospect data from a CSV file.
Preparing Your CSV File
Before importing, prepare your CSV file correctly. Your CSV should:
Include a header row.
Use clear column names.
Contain one data point per column.
Example columns:
Preferred Contact Time
Product Interest
Region

Importing a CSV and Matching Custom Fields
Importing a CSV
Go to Campaigns.
Select "Create New Campaign" in the top-right corner.
Choose a campaign type.
Select "+ Add Search".
Select "CSV File" from the left-hand sidebar.
Select "Add CSV File" and upload your CSV.
Matching CSV Columns to Custom Fields
When prompted to match fields, review each CSV column.
For columns that are not standard fields:
Confirm all columns are mapped correctly.
Select "Save" to complete the import.

Using Custom Placeholders in Messages
Once the import is complete:
Custom Fields are added to each prospect profile.
Corresponding Custom Placeholders become available in campaigns.
To use a Custom Placeholder:
Open your campaign message editor.
Insert the placeholder linked to the Custom Field.
Save your changes.
The placeholder will populate automatically for each prospect.
Best Practices
Keep Custom Field names consistent across imports.
Avoid creating duplicate fields with similar names.
Test your placeholders with a small CSV first.
Review prospect profiles after import to confirm data accuracy.

Q: Do I need to create Custom Fields before importing a CSV?
A: No. You can create Custom Fields during the column matching step.
Q: What happens if a Custom Field is empty for a prospect?
A: The placeholder will return blank for that prospect.

A: Yes. Custom Placeholders remain available as long as the Custom Field exists.
