The Different Search Types

A guide to the different search types that can be added to a campaign

Written by Lee

Interceptly gives you multiple ways to add prospects to your campaigns, depending on where your audience is active on LinkedIn.

In here, we'll explain each search type, what it is best for, and how to use it safely so your campaign imports clean, relevant prospect lists.

๐Ÿ’ก Testing different search types helps you find the fastest path to replies, especially when you pair strong targeting with consistent follow-ups.

Search Link

A search link is a URL from a LinkedIn search or a Sales Navigator search that Interceptly uses to import prospects into a campaign.

When to Use a Search Link

Use a search link when you want a structured, filter-based list, such as:

  • Job titles.

  • Industries.

  • Company headcount.

  • Location.

  • Seniority.

๐Ÿšจ Important: The maximum number of prospects that can be imported from a single search link is 2,500. If your search results exceed the limit, apply filters to narrow the results until they stay under the limit.

Best Practice For Better Results

  • Use tighter filters to keep your list relevant.

  • Build multiple smaller searches instead of one large, broad search.

  • Keep each list focused on one ICP, so your messaging stays specific.

Post Link

A post link lets you add prospects from LinkedIn posts or ads that have generated a high number of comments.

This is useful when a post shows clear interest around a topic, product category, or competitor.

When to Use a Post Link

Use a post link when you want to reach people who are already engaging, such as:

  • People commenting on a competitorโ€™s ad.

  • People discussing a problem your product solves.

  • People reacting to a viral post related to your market.

How to Get the Post URL

  1. Open the post or ad on LinkedIn.

  2. Select the "..." menu near the top of the post.

  3. Select "Copy link to post".

  4. Use that link as your search input in Interceptly.

๐ŸŽ“ Note: Post link prospects can convert well because they are already active in the conversation.

Event Link

An event link allows you to add prospects from a LinkedIn event.

When to Use an Event Link

Use an event link when the event is tightly aligned with your target audience, such as:

  • Industry conferences.

  • Webinars.

  • Community events.

  • Product category events.

How to Get the Event URL

  1. Register for the LinkedIn event first.

  2. Open the event home page.

  3. Copy the URL from your browser.

๐ŸŽ“ Note: The end of the URL often contains "About", which is usually a good signal that you are on the main event page.

Group Link

A group link allows you to add prospects from a LinkedIn Group you are a member of.

When to Use a Group Link

Use a group link when the group is highly relevant, such as:

  • Niche industry groups.

  • Role-based groups like Sales Ops or RevOps.

  • Location-based business communities.

How to Use a Group Link

  1. Join the LinkedIn Group.

  2. Open the group page.

  3. Copy the group URL.

  4. Use that link as your search input in Interceptly.

๐Ÿ’ก Tip: For more control, use Sales Navigator to filter by group membership, then add additional filters like job title and location. When you do this, you will use a search link, not a group link.

Recruiter Project Link

A Recruiter Project Link is a URL from LinkedIn Recruiter that points to a specific project.

LinkedIn Recruiter Projects are used to manage candidate searches and hiring pipelines.

When to use a Recruiter Project Link

Use this when your team sources prospects using LinkedIn Recruiter and organizes them inside projects.

How to Get the Recruiter Project URL

  1. Sign in to LinkedIn Recruiter.

  2. Go to "Projects".

  3. Select the project you want to use.

  4. Copy the URL from your browser address bar.

๐Ÿšจ Important: Access to Recruiter Projects depends on your LinkedIn Recruiter permissions. If you cannot access the project, you cannot use the link.

Recruiter Link

A Recruiter Link is a URL from a Recruiter search results page.

Recruiter Search supports advanced filtering to find candidates. In some teams, this is used similarly to Sales Navigator searching.

How to Get the Recruiter Search URL

  1. Sign in to LinkedIn Recruiter.

  2. Run a search using your desired filters.

  3. Copy the URL from your browser address bar.

๐Ÿšจ Important: Anyone using this link must have access to LinkedIn Recruiter, or the link will not load for them.

Best Practices

  • Start with a narrow audience and expand only after you see results.

  • Keep prospect lists under the 2,500 import limit by tightening filters.

  • Use post links for high-intent engagement, especially comments on ads.

  • Use event and group links when the audience is specific and role-aligned.

  • If you need advanced targeting, build a Sales Navigator search link using multiple filters.

๐ŸŽ“ Note: The best results usually come from a focused list and a message that matches the reason the prospect is relevant.

FAQ

Q: What is the best search type to start with?

A: A "Search Link" is usually best to start with because it gives you the most control using filters.

Q: What happens if my search link has more than 2,500 prospects?

A: Interceptly will only import up to the maximum limit, so it is best to narrow the search using filters first.

Q: Do I need to join a LinkedIn Group to use a group link?

A: Yes, you must be a member of the group before you can pull prospects from it.

Q: Can I use LinkedIn Recruiter links without a Recruiter account?

A: No, recruiter links require LinkedIn Recruiter access and permissions.

๐Ÿš€ Success! You now understand the different search types available in Interceptly and when to use each one.
